Sport (BTEC) Level 3 Diploma
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, which is 720 GLH, is intended to be an Applied General qualification for post-16 students wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, probably in the sports sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to 2 A levels and has been designed as a two-year programme, which would usually be studied alongside a further level 3 qualification such as an A Level or a single BTEC.
Everyone taking this qualification will study six mandatory units, covering the following content areas:
• Anatomy and physiology
• Fitness training and programming for health, sport and well-being
• Professional development in the sports industry
• Sports leadership
• Investigating business in sport and active leisure
• Acquiring skill in sport
In addition, you will study three optional units. They could cover the following areas:
• Coaching
• Leisure management
• Performance and exercise
• Outdoor adventure.
Assessment
The course compromises of internal and externally assessed assessments.
Internal assessment include:
- Case Studies
- Written assignments
- Practical demonstrations
External assessments include:
- End of unit exams on computer
- Witten assignments
Continuing to study Physical Education can create many opportunities and give you access to the following career opportunities:
- Any University sports degree
- Any HND sports course
Possible career options: Physiotherapist, sport and exercise scientist, personal trainer and fitness instructor, sports coach, PE teacher, sport or exercise psychologist, nutritionist, sports performer, sports journalist, sports development manager, sports photographer, performance analyst, biomechanics coach, medical industry, psychology industry, armed forces or any career in the professional sports or exercise industry.
